US Sailing, the National Governing Body for the sport of sailing, has been serving sailors since 1897 and our commitment to our more than 44,000 members is to provide a safe, fun and successful experience.
We developed a certification system that makes learning to sail easy and fun and supports you as you work to achieve your goals. All of our programming is designed to help you learn safely and with confidence and our educational materials are created by dedicated volunteer experts who share their passion and knowledge of sailing and education.

Situated on the beautiful Mid-Coast of Maine the Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club Adult Sailing School offers a variety of sailing programs. The Downtown Sailing Center offers US Sailing’s Basic Keelboat (BK) certification course through 5-day and 3-weekend offerings. Limited to three sailors per boat, our BK students sail on Baltimore’s beautiful Harbor in our recently updated J/22s. Our 5-day course runs from Wednesday-Sunday the third week of every month, and our Weekend sessions are offered on the first three weekends of each month.
